Tom Banfield

Sunset Divers Instructor

Close your eyes and dream of warm tropical trade winds, miles of powder white sand, glorious winter temperatures and an azure ocean. Now open them and think of Milton Keynes, England. Frankly, the latter does not paint such a pretty picture and for those of you who have had the opportunity to spend any time there you’ll understand why Tom Banfield got on a plane as soon as possible.

His childhood years were spent in the delightful olde -worlde town of Bedford, truly one of England’s melting pots of culture and tradition. There he enjoyed the arts, literature, lager and mountain biking. Though our experts don’t recall Bedfordshire as a mountainous region? Fond memories indeed.

Luckily for Tom he was introduced to the wonders of Grand Cayman early on. From a tender age Tom enjoyed winter vacations here and just as soon as he was able he ventured beneath the seas. Becoming a certified diver changed Tom’s life. The now legendary Ivan Monteith put his name on the card and from that day forth Tom was a diver and a serious one at that.

An education got in the way, of course and after obtaining a degree in History (good one) from Southampton University Tom enrolled on a Dive Master course at the world renowned resort of Stoney Cove, known to many as the “Eilat” of England. There in near freezing temperatures surrounded by wildly confused BSAC divers, Tom learned his trade.

Tom has a passion for music and dancing and is currently rehearsing for his debut role in a stage adaptation of Miss Saigon. He is an avid Manchester United fan, loves competitive ice skating and Chuck Norris. Tom is the small one who smiles a great deal and offers assistance at every opportunity. He finishes early on Wednesdays to go to tap class. Nice one Tom!
