Sunset Diver's Aquires
3 Deep V-Hull Boats

The Sunset House and Sunset Divers Fleet grew over the holidays.  Got any names for our 3 new boats? With the closing of Divi Tiara on Cayman Brac, Sunset House purchased their three boats which are the same make and model of Sea Ray!

While we are currently using one straight away, all three will go to Harbour House Marina for a complete overhaul and paint job.  (See the Captain's Blog for more)

Powered by twin 300 HP engines and running at 20 knots with 16 people on board, this 39 foot custom dive boat can get us where we want to go.  This will permit more trips to the North Side of the island.  Keep an eye on Mike's Column for updates on the boats.  (Should we have a contest for 3 more Ray Names???)

     Your Photos!
Guests send us some of their "Sunset House Memories!"
From Fred Catella who lives in the now infamous "snowy" upstate New York.

Fred's picture makes for a great screen saver. Find it in the new Photo Gallery on the website!

Fred and Judy Catella are the ultimate Sunset House Guests.  They have stayed at the resort over 25 times since 1990.  Fred is an avid diver and underwater photographer.  Judy is just the best!  A non-diver, but we think she has more fun at the resort than Fred!  Always good stories, baby sitting some of the animals on property (Judy is the only person we know that brings down "duty free gourmet cat food".) and a lover of a good cold beer! The lovely couple also brings down fresh cheese and salami from their home town for the staff!

Thanks for this picture Fred and we look forward to more pictures from our guests to post up on our next newsletter!  Look for this picture in our new Our Photo Gallery on our website.  It makes a spectacular wallpaper for your computer.  And remember, this picture was taken about 15 feet from the ladder.

Send your pictures to either Mike at mikep@sunsethouse.com or Keith at marketing@sunsethouse.com.

We didn't stay at Sunset and although we heard good reports, we were skeptical. My family and I just had the best dive trip of our lives! Sunset House is for divers- I'm sorry we stayed at the Ritz because the atmosphere, the service and the professionalism was first rate.
For no nonsence dive trips, this is the place. The dive staff could not have been more helpful. And they have fun helping you have fun. Mike Pinnington runs a tight ship and has a great team of people who all have great advice, support and even better stories. My son fell in love with Jax, my wife fell for Mike B and Rob is the most decent human being I have ever met.
So next year were forgetting 5 star room service- were going to Sunset. Great job everybody and Happy New Year.

And we couldn't let this compliment go by, passed on to Mike from Karin Boss, PADI Quality Management.

Dear PADI Quality Management:
I recently completed the PADI Divemaster program with Sunset Divers/Sunset House in Grand Cayman, and I'd like to compliment PADI on producing instructors like the one who was my primary instructor-mentor, John Frederick (nicknamed Freddy).

During my internship, Freddy had me very involved with Open Water students, making a point of introducing me, including me in every aspect of their training where appropriate, and having me demonstrate a good number of skills (not just a minimum number).  Furthermore, he fueled my desire to become a PADI Instructor by including me in many aspects of his life as a dive instructor beyond pure teaching, such as giving local dive briefings of Sunset House Reef.  In areas he thought I could improve, he gently gave me constructive criticism and explained that it was to be taken constructively, explaining that overall he thought I was doing well.

It is instructor-leaders like John Frederick that make others want to become PADI Instructors themselves.  Because I had a positive experience with the PADI Divemaster program, I'll likely go on to the Instructor level, and John Frederick and other good role models have much to do with that decision.

Thank you,  Brianna W. Lam

 Meet the Staff
(Each month, this section will feature one of many amazing staff members at Sunset House!  Their stories and backgrounds are all unique and intriguing as the next!)

Mike Brown AKA MikeB

Another Mike- just to confuse you. Mike Sutton-Brown grew up with our very own Pete Foster-Smith. Together they learned to dive in the crystal clear quarries of Lancashire and the temperate waters of Oban, Scotland.
Mike has been on quite a journey reaching his current destination last October. Read his full story

Lots of repeat guests and familiar faces..

Dive Operations Manager

Portrait of Mike Pinnington

We had an excellent Christmas week. Familiar faces joined us for their traditional festive dives. Though the weather was less than cooperative just prior to New Years Eve, we enjoyed full boats and great camaraderie from the staff and guests alike. While we all worked on Christmas Day the team managed to get a little time off to spend with friends and family. On Christmas Night, Pete arranged the bonfire party on the beach. Everyone was dragging themselves away from the TV and cold turkey to have a beer or 2 and watch the now famous Fireworks by Freddy!
