Kevin HudsonSunset Divers Instructor
It’s been a stressful week for our Kev. He and his good lady Alex just bought a house. And as many of us know moving home can be one of the most traumatic things a couple can go through. It’s a big achievement for our Canadian brother who has only been with us six months. I must be paying them way too much. Kevin was born in Montreal which is no mean feat. He spent his summers in Monkton, New Brunswick and after being badly stung by a jellyfish developed a healthy loathing for all things wet. Also an aversion to seafood. All was not lost however. In the balmy summer, typical of tropical New Brunswick, of 1996 Kevin was coerced into trying scuba diving for the first time. It was an emotional moment-one of many. After seeing a juvenile octopus place a rock in the door of his den Kevin was hooked. His passion for the undersea world began that day. Kevin is a sensitive lad so he decided to get certified while in Cozumel during a hair stylists conference. His advanced course was completed in St Maarten and onto St Croix for his Rescue. This is where it gets weird. They were all warm, glamorous locations with spectacular diving. We don’t know exactly what happened but Kev chose Newcastle upon Tyne in the north of England to complete his instructor training. Not exactly known as the Eilat of England plus his first introduction to dry suit diving made quite an impression on Kev. He went on to teach in the frigid lakes of Calgary and after losing 9 fingers to frostbite decided to relocate to Grand Cayman in 2005. |
