DOUBLE FIGURES
2009-08-21 @ 04:14:00
Sunset House and Sunset Divers are now at a total of 10 lionfish caught of the house reef. The lionfish that put us into double figures was caught by the lionfish wrangler Andy Barnes who weaved his magic and trickery to catch it last night after 5 p.m. It was caught in 55 ft of water near Sunset's cruise ship anchor. It is still waiting to be picked up by the Department of Enviroment.
MANTA RAY OFF SUNSET REEF
2009-08-20 @ 05:49:27
A group of shore divers this morning spotted a manta ray from the shore dive here at Sunset House. The group was diving on the edge of the wall when they spotted the manta ray swimming effortlessly against the current. At a depth of 50 ft they followed it as best they could whilst capturing the ray on video. The video was then verified by Sunset Divers dive staff (you would be amazed how many people think the southern stingrays are mantas).
With any luck the ray will swing by for another visit!
QUIET TIME NOT SO QUIET
2009-08-17 @ 05:15:35
The month of August is typically a really quiet time of the year for us at Sunset House and Sunset Divers. It’s an ideal time for us to catch up on maintenance and what have you. What this usually means is a trip down to Harbour House to paint one of our fleet, or just general painting with a bit of painting for desert. With the recession in progress we were expecting it to be particularly quiet. That is not the case. We are going stronger than ever. The boat numbers may be a bit down, but the teaching is going great! Lots and lots of referrals and resort courses for brand new divers. We have almost certified more people than we did in the whole of 2007. And it is an amazing time to learn and go diving with flat calm waters at 84 degrees. The fish love the warm water as well. There is a lot of underwater lovin’ going on! So if you are thinking of learning to dive or want to do some seriously laid back diving which could not be easier, come down and see us and you will get spoiled rotten!
