Lazy Days of Summer???
2007-08-10 @ 12:33:12
There is no such thing as the lazy days of summer. At Sunset House were as busy as ever with 3 full boats this week and no sign of a decline until late August. The group business this year has been a huge success as well as many repeat guests deciding that they would rather come back to us.
Ned Van Neese returned only 3 weeks after his first visit to do his Advanced course and now wants to his Divemaster program early in the New Year. Rob Prasil and the Military gang are here and have been for a couple of weeks. Steve Newland from the UK is here for a 13 night stay and with a host of PADI CD’s and Staff Instructors in house for a reunion its been a fun packed and busy month.
Mike Goss bought 13 down and they had a blast and we did too!

Sunset divers has some great friends who visit time after time. Elaine Dymond and Keith Wilson from North Carolina are no exception.

They are the happiest most positive divers your ever likely to meet- a pleasure for us and anyone who dives with them. Come back soon guys.
Suzanne has completed her Divemaster Internship and returns to the tropical climes of Rome, New York where she will be managing Delta Divers. Dave Hinman is lucky to have her, not because we trained her simply because Suzanne has the enthusiasm and professionalism this industry needs. Well done Suzanne.
Sunset Divers has joined hands with the Central Caribbean Marine Institute (CCMI) here in the Cayman Islands. So for future guests and anyone concerned about the overall health of our aquatic eco-system I would like to invite you to be part of an important research, education and outreach initiative here in the Cayman Islands. Welcome to CCMI”s Dollar a Dive Campaign.
Due to increasing environmental pressures, few of which are truly understood, coral reefs are now one of the most threatened and vulnerable eco- systems on our planet. As divers I feel that we have a certain responsibility to stay involved in continued research and education to protect the very environment we gain so much pleasure from. CCMI is dedicated to improving and sustaining our coral reef diversity through innovative research and education programs. With your support we can help CCMI achieve these goals. For a dollar a dive or 10$ donation you’ll receive a CCMI BC tag which tells your fellow divers you care about the reefs of Cayman and have done something positive to help sustain our incredible underwater playground. So get involved and come by the dive store and donate! Check CCMI out on www.reefresearch.org
Another smaller Manta was spotted on the house reef last week. We have some very strange currents recently and due to this we are seeing some peculiar and rare species. Another African Pompano on the wall and numerous Permit tell us summer is well and truly here. Plenty of shark action is being reported out on the more northern dive sites and the smaller critters inside the reef continue to thrill. Water temps are up to the balmy mid 80’s and no wetsuit is required- diving at its most luxurious! Happy days indeed.
Pete and I recently completed a hull survey on a visiting Coastguard cutter. The hull and 13ft variable pitch props were in good order. It was determined that Freddy’s roommate from college was aboard serving as the helicopter pilot so a tour of the ship followed.

Great boat, great people and a big thank you for providing an incredible service down here in the Caribbean.

Ikelite are here again in August for some final product testing prior to the DEMA trade show. Always good to have them here. And it gives us a chance to relax a bit, pick up a camera and go and shoot some pictures with Jean, Stubby and Dave.
Speaking of Quality Products... Jim Stahl and his lovely family came and stayed with us for a relaxing week!

It is always a joy to have some of the industries finest coming down to hang out with us. You can see all of Jim's great products at www.stahlsac.com.
Everyone is looking forward to the quite times. Rob is off to Honduras next week and Freddy just got back from a great trip in Europe following the Tour de France among other things.
As many of you know who have been here recently we have had Matt Southgate on board doing a work experience program. He’s the shy blonde one. Matt lives locally and has been with us during many of his school breaks.

This summer was no exception and Matt really got into the spirit of what Sunset Divers is all about. He is on the boat most days and not only helps the staff with all the mundane jobs but has been a great help to many of the guests. He knows the dive sites and buddies up with any stray diver who needs some direction. Matt completed his Rescue course this summer and we hope to provide him with his Divemaster course next year. So a big thanks from all of us here to Matt- you’ve been an integral part of a very successful summer.
Don’t forget our up and coming IDC program starting 27th Nov followed by the IE. We have secured some great pricing and are able to offer more bang for your IDC buck. Contact me for details. Places are filling fast so book soon.
Warm, calm seas and the convenience that Sunset Divers provides make for an ideal diving vacation. Get the kids back to school and treat yourself. We promise you won’t be disappointed and you’ll come back again and again.
So to many Happy Summer Holidays and see you here in the near future,
All the Best
