Diving - What it's All About!
2007-10-25 @ 07:03:18
We just got in from an early morning dive with old friends Gary & Brenda Mawston and their daughter Lori. Eagle Rays and Turtles were the order of the day and what a great way to start the morning.

Gary Mawston with Brenda, Lori and Mike. Gary is the most successfull Course Director in Europe. Mike and Gary worked together in the Channel Islands in 1988.

Sometimes we forget how lucky we are to have a fantastic dive site in our back yard. Its 9am and 85 degrees, the ocean is flat calm in anticipation of our first ‘winter’ storm. Any time the wind comes from the North West we move the boats south, along with everyone else.
Everyone is rested and ready for the busy times ahead. The annual Pirates Week festival kicks off in November and we are full to the gunnels. We have had a great year with records being broken monthly. This must have something to do with the staff we have. I am so lucky to have people who like one another and adore what they do. The guys and gal (Jax) just get on with and enjoy just about every minute not counting blocked heads and dirty bilges.
Our resident training courses are doing very well and are full weeks in advance. The SSI program is strong with Instructor crossovers planned for December. We just hosted an SSI film crew here for 10 days which was great fun so watch out for Sunset House in all those movies.
We have our PADI IDC at the end of November with Dave Hinman. Were expecting high numbers for this one and the good news is that we plan to offer more PADI Instructor Development courses in 08.
New hires include Scott Livingstone from Canada. Our British/Canadian hiring policy goes from strength to strength. We have PDT here right now from Kelowna BC and the groups looks ok so far.

The diving industry celebrates its largest trade event next week in Orlando so were all off to DEMA 07. It’s a great chance to catch up with everybody and view the ever changing face of our tight knit community. With vendors, travels specialists, and manufacturers from all over the world it’s a great showcase for all. Our goal is to surpass last year’s bookings thus ensuring we have an extremely busy and successful 2008. So if you’re fortunate enough to attend come and see us in the Cayman Islands area.
We will have an addition to our show personnel with Jax coming along to join the event. Jax has worked tirelessly this year and deserves to be recognized for her enthusiastic approach to diving. She even cancelled a live aboard trip to help out when we got busy. So thank you Jax .Its going to be a full booth with Keith, Dee, myself and Jax on board.

So with temperatures falling (or soaring if you’re in California right now) its time to think about your winter vacation plans. For that convenient hassle-free dive vacation Sunset House is the natural choice. The water is only 30 yards from most rooms, lockers close by, a centrally located pool and of course My Bar makes for the easiest of dive holidays. Our staff love diving as much as you do and you’ll make life long friends. Come and see us, you’ll be glad you did.

Safe Diving,

Mike
