It’s hard to believe were half way through February. The resort is pretty busy and has been since Christmas. Meghan is doing plenty of teaching and will probably pull in one of the other guys to help her out. Our resident dive community is ever expanding which is great and were seeing all ages coming through the school. Having all the amenities on site is a real bonus and enables us to schedule courses pretty much at any time of the day or night.

There has been a lot of yard time recently and that is a big focus for us this year. My goal is get all the boats up to scratch and looking as best they can. When were busy with guests it’s often difficult to schedule time in the yard plus no-one likes going there! Rob has been appointed in charge of boats- he comes from a yacht fabrication background and certainly know his stuff and so we put that to good use.
Talking of boats we have acquired a new one! Sun Ray will be launched this coming week, we have been putting the final touches on her and she is ready to go. We’ll do a shakedown trip then bring her round to the west side. As you can see from the picture she’ll provide more cover for the guests and we plan to keep the max number on her to 12. A lovely little boat that will be everyone’s favorite I am sure.
Our IDC calendar is taking shape. We plan our first in October so there’s ample time for all the Divemaster candidates to finish and progress. I’m very excited about these programs and that’s why we decided to not rush into an early IDC- this time frame gives everyone a chance to plan ahead. Dave and I will run the program with Meghan staffing as often as possible. One of the benefits of doing your IDC at Sunset House is the job placement scheme. We will introduce you to various Managers on island who have the ability to hire you. As the business grows at Sunset House there will also be positions available here- train here, work here- makes perfect sense. Anyone who is interested in Professional Development should e-mail me directly (Address below). Lots of repeat guests this month with too many to list though Fred Cattella is back for his first visit of the year- good to see you Fred… Stan Babb and his son Dixon are back next week for a father and son trip and of course Jay Ireland visits so often we assume he lives here. Total Submersion returns soon so that will be over 70 divers running around. Lots of great sponsors coming too. Ty Sawyer and the gang from Sport Diver will be here and also Sport Diver UK are covering the event. An international flavor this year.
The good news is that Sam will be making a guest appearance for a couple of weeks this spring while his yacht is preparing to leave. Missed by many it will be great to have Little Tex back in the fold. Keith and I will be ‘on tour’ next week when we hit Chicago for the Dive Show. If it’s not -20 come by the stand and visit. After that it will be Dee and Meghan in New York and then vacation time- watch out Martha’s Vineyard and Vancouver Island!
By the way- the diving is awesome right now!
Until next month, Safe diving Mike
